Weavers are highly complex woven nest builders in the summer only. The parasitic widow weavers build no known nests at all. They are mostly sendentary , noisy , gregarious , and are polygynous , and have elaborately courtship rituals .

The African buffalo weavers are small 8 to 10 in. black and brown birds that travel in small flocks, building bulky compartment nests having various chambers for two or more pairs.

Of the 35 known sparrow Weavers , the most commonly and distribute and familiar is the small English sparrow, native to all Europe, West Asia, and North Africa. Among all birds the English sparrow is the most successful town and city dweller, and has followed European civilization to North America back in 1852 . In the Orient the tree sparrow is as common (introduced into the United States), which is a nuisance in rice fields and is sold in great quantities for food.

The most specialized of sparrow weavers is a social Weaver of Africa, it builds an apartment house nest, that the houses 100 to 300 pairs that have separate chambers entered by tubes at the bottom. This structure may be 10 ft. high and 15 ft. across , also high up on a sturdy tree , and beginning with the roof of straw thatch.

They're often kept as a caged bird, especially the colorful waxbills like the ; java sparrow , mannikin , grenadier , munia , cutthroat , parrot , and fire finches .
