walrusWalrus Related to the seal and found in the Arctic waters the walrus is a gregarious mammal . There is two species the Atlantic and the Pacific walrus . The males been the larger of the sexes reaches a length of 12 ft. or more and can weigh over a ton . Their skin being thick and wrinkled is sparsely haired , and they have bristly whiskers on their muzzle.

The tusks are 14 to 26 in. the male and are down curved, and in the female they are smaller. They are chiefly used to dig up food on the seabed like mollusks and crustaceans, also used as a weapon.They are still a source of food for the eskimo, and years ago they were hunted ruthlessly for their ivory, hide, and oil.
