shorthorncowShorthorn cattle Or Durham cattle, this breed of beef cattle originated in and North East England. The breeding of shorthorns for systematic production started in the latter part of the 18th century. By Robert and Charles Colling , where they followed the methods of Robert Bakewell.

The new stock included short horns, and were then later imported in 1783; where they can be found in every part of the country. They are the largest of the beef breeds, with compact, low set, rectangular bodies. There color is red to white or maybe any combination of these colors, but to a higher percentage of roan .

Shorthorns have occasionally been used for draft animals because of their strong and docile nature . A popular dual purpose breed called the Milking shorthorn, this is widespread mostly in the north central United States.
