pronghornPronghorn or prongbuck Mammal living member of the family Of (Antilocapridae) only found in the North America and Mexico but mostly on the Southwest United States. Often called incorrectly American antelopes to the true antelopes family of Africa and Asia.

Like the antelope the horns have a single fork; inside the horn is a bony core , with a bony covering ,and unlike the antelope the covering is shed annually . Their coloring along the back is reddish brown and white underparts and neck bands, with a dark muzzle. When in danger the hairs of the white rump patch raise sending out a signal to other pronghorns, and also secretions of a scent gland warn also.

At one time pronghorns were numerous in the western United States and were doomed for extinction , but now have protection in national forests and parks .
