The old world Orioles art allied to the crows, while the American Orioles, of the hang nest group, belong to the the black bird and meadow lark family. The European golden oriole has beautiful orange and yellow plumage with black wings and tail, this bird ranges from England to Siberia and winters in Africa.

The related mango bird inhabits India, and allied species are found in Africa and Australia. The male Baltimore Orioles of East North America the head, throat, shoulders, wings, and tail are black and the rest of the plumage is orange. Nesting in a deep , woven bag , is suspended from the tip of the high branch.

Orioles diet chiefly consists of insects and fruit. In the orchard oriole, chestnut replaces the brilliant orange of the Baltimore Oriole .The Bullock's oriole, of West North America has orange markings on the head.
