dingowild-dogDingo This is Australia's wild dog, believed to have arrived some 40,000 years ago by the aboriginal settlers of that continent. Most likely a descendant of the pharaoh dogs of Egypt and India , the dingo is the same size as a small German shepherd dog, it has large erect ears, short legs, and a stout build.

It is yellowish red in color, with white markings on the underside, the feet, and the tip of the tail; crosses with domestic dogs' have produced and red and black dingos .

With the introduction of the rabbit , the dingo increased its numbers , becoming a pest to sheep and poultry farmers. In its wild state it howls rather than barks, and it hunts singly or in pairs, but it rarely in packs.
